Switching account type between host and operator
Why switching between a host and an operator account runs through support, what to tell us, and what happens to your listings and subscription.

Every Spacement account has exactly one role: host if you rent space out, operator if you are looking for space. Switching between the two is currently done by our support team. There is no toggle in the settings, and there is a reason for that.
Why it is not a button
Different things hang off each role. A host account carries listings that sit in the directory and that operators reach. An operator account carries a subscription and a list of unlocked contacts.
An automatic switch would have to decide what happens to one while the other is created. That decision depends on the individual case, so we would rather look at it than guess.
How to request the switch
Write to us through the contact form and pick Account as the topic. To save a round of questions, tell us straight away:
- The email address your Spacement account uses.
- The direction, host to operator or the other way round.
- What should happen to your existing listings, if you are a host.
We come back with anything that needs settling from our side and make the change once you have agreed.
What changes afterwards
As a host you create listings, keep their details up to date and answer enquiries. Listing is free.
As an operator you see the full details of a listing, meaning the exact address and the contact details, and you can write to hosts directly. That requires access to the directory.
Your login is unaffected either way. Password, second factor and passkeys stay as they are.
The alternative: a second account
If you genuinely need both sides on an ongoing basis, say you rent out your own space while looking for space elsewhere, a second account is the simpler route. Create it with a different email address and move between the two, with nothing to switch over each time.
Common questions
- Why can I not switch the account type myself?
- Because more hangs off the role than a toggle. Host accounts carry listings, operator accounts carry a subscription and unlocked contacts. An automatic switch would have to unwind both cleanly, and that path does not exist yet.
- What happens to my listings if I move to an operator account?
- We agree that with you first. Either the listings stay and are no longer managed by you, or they are removed. Neither happens without your say-so.
- Can I hold both roles at once?
- No, an account has exactly one role. If you need both, create a second account with a different email address.
- Does switching cost anything?
- The switch itself does not. If you move to an operator account, the usual terms for directory access apply from then on.
